What is The Career Collective?

The Career Collective is Basecamp Outdoor’s expert-led career coaching and mentorship platform — the only one built specifically for the outdoor industry. Whether you’re new to the field or a seasoned pro navigating your next chapter, we offer 1:1 sessions with career coaches, mentors, and industry experts who know this space inside and out.

Is it free to use?

No — the Career Collective is a paid service. When you book a session, you’re investing in personalized time with an experienced professional. However, our broader Basecamp community offerings — including our Facebook group, Office Hours events, and outdoor industry job postings — remain free and accessible to all.

How does it work?
It’s easy:

  1. Choose your expert — a coach, mentor, or industry expert.

  2. Select a service — from resume revamps to job search strategy.

  3. Book your session — you’ll receive confirmation within 48 hours.

  4. Meet on Zoom — and start working toward your next career milestone.

How is a Career Coach different from a Mentor or Industry Expert?

  • Career Coaches ($$$) offer deep, transformational guidance with robust deliverables. Great for major transitions or big-picture goals.

  • Career Mentors ($$) provide targeted, practical advice grounded in recruiting and HR experience.

  • Industry Experts ($-$$$) give niche-specific guidance based on years of real-world experience in a particular outdoor sector.

WORKING WITH A COACH OR MENTOR

What should I expect from a session?
Sessions are personalized to your goals, but generally include:

  • Expert support tailored to your situation

  • Clear action steps

  • Honest, encouraging feedback

  • Follow-up resources or session recaps, depending on your service level

What happens after I book?
You’ll receive a confirmation email within 48 hours (often sooner). Your coach will reach out to coordinate the session and send any pre-session materials.

I haven’t heard from my coach — what do I do?

  • Step 1: Check your spam/junk folder for emails from Basecamp Outdoor.

  • Step 2: If you still haven’t heard back within 48 business hours, contact us at hello@wearetheoutdoorindustry.com

Can I preview or chat with a coach before booking?
No free consults are offered at this time. However, every coach has a detailed profile with bios, specialties, and client feedback to help you choose the right fit.

How do Resume & LinkedIn services work?
You’ll submit your current resume and job goals ahead of time. Depending on your package, your coach will offer:

  • A live review session via Zoom

  • Revisions and edits via email

  • Final drafts and optimization tips (for higher-tier services)

Note: Coaches do not access your LinkedIn profile directly. You’ll make updates based on their feedback.

SCHEDULING, RESCHEDULING & REFUNDS

How far in advance do I need to book?
Appointments must be booked at least 48 hours in advance to ensure proper preparation time.

Can I reschedule my session?
Yes!

  • You can reschedule up to 48 hours in advance.

  • For emergencies within 48 hours, email us at hello@wearetheoutdoorindustry.com as soon as possible.

  • Missed sessions without notice are non-refundable.

What is your refund policy?
We aim to ensure your satisfaction. If something isn’t right, contact us at hello@wearetheoutdoorindustry.com

Workshop Cancellation & Refund Policy

Due to the digital nature of our workshops, all registrations are non-refundable. If you're unable to attend the live session, you'll receive access to the workshop recording and any accompanying resources, so you won't miss the content.

If you've accidentally registered more than once or experience a technical issue, please reach out and we'll be happy to help.
