What’s the difference between a Career Coach, Career Mentor and an Industry Expert ?

Mentors are professionals with a passion to assist in navigating careers. They will provide advice and guidance based on specific sectoral or job function expertise and will not provide as substantial of a deliverable as coaches. They are mostly committing their time and a recap email detailing discussion points, recommendations, and next steps. A mentor is for the professional on a budget and looking for direct advice from someone with experience in a specific sub-sector or job function.

Coaches are professionals with a tenured track record of successful 1:1 and/or group career coaching. They will be responsible for providing a document deliverable in addition to their time. Coaches are for professionals looking for more experienced support beyond the nuts and bolts of a job function or sector.

Industry Experts are professionals that have extensive knowledge, experience and expertise from a long career within the outdoor industry. They have a deep knowledge of the industry, a strong network, are subject matter experts and have insight into current trends and future developments. Industry Experts have careers in outdoor guiding and education, product design, marketing, conservation, write or produce content, and more. Industry Experts are helping shape the industry by sharing their knowledge, promoting best practices, and building inclusive communities that expand access to the industry and the outdoors.

Career Coaches, Career Mentors, and Industry Experts will not necessarily offer all of the same services and may choose which services they offer based on expertise and availability.
