 The Role

We are seeking a social media specialist to help us manage and create content for our social media channels, particularly Instagram and Facebook, to highlight Basecamp’s unique thought leadership, provide value to our audience, and promote our events and offerings. This is a part-time position with the potential to grow into a full-time role.

This position will report to and receive mentorship from Basecamp’s Chief Community Officer (CCO) and consist largely of distilling Basecamp’s omni-channel content (Facebook discussions, podcast episodes, educational webinars, newsletter information, career-oriented white papers) into snackable social media posts.

The ability to identify and craft content gems from long-form content into succinct visuals or ~15 second video clips will be a key indicator of success. We will provide a monthly editorial calendar and brand guidelines, as well as existing post templates in many instances (though we are open to your creative suggestions!).

  • Journalistic instincts that help you efficiently distill long-form content down to valuable takeaways. 

  • Care deeply about inclusion + equity with a passion for diversifying not only the outdoors but the outdoor industry workforce. 

  • Familiar with outdoor industry trends and jargon (such as OR), or willing to learn.

  • Curious about the digital landscape and always learning about the newest social media trends, changes to the algorithm, and ways to leverage data and analytics.

  • Ability to create fresh, interesting, compelling posts daily (or ideally, batch content weekly).

  • Comfortable and competent managing and growing grassroots social media presence.

  • Dialed in - able to zone in on key topics, information and graphics that will appeal to outdoor enthusiasts and those looking to propel their careers. 

  • Able to track own deadlines, ask for help when needed, and communicate challenges when deadlines are not able to be met.

Responsibilities 

Under the guidance and editorial calendar provided by the CCO:

  • Create 4-6 original, high-quality social media feed posts or reels, and 10-12 stories per week using existing templates or creating new ones in accordance with Basecamp brand guidelines (Canva preferred). 

  • Maintain the Basecamp brand voice and commitment to inclusivity and diversity when creating assets.

  • Post (schedule) content in alignment with editorial calendar and accessibility goals. 

  • Suggest additions or improvements to Basecamp’s editorial calendar with a goal to organically build an audience and ensure community engagement. 

  • Leverage the right tools to manage your content.

  • Suggest strategies to build and nurture a community on an accelerated timeline

  • Analyze ongoing key performance indicators and provide recommendations for continual improvement.

  • Respond to community within defined service levels.

Required Skills and Abilities

• Entry Level: 1 year or more of paid social media work.

• Strong level of proficiency in creating social media ad campaigns.

• Excellent grammar and communication skills.

• High attention to detail and design-savvy.

• Understanding of the metrics that drive social media decisions.

• Strong organizational skills and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.

• Experience with estimating level of effort to perform projects and/or tasks.

• Good critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to work well with others and exercise good judgment.

Preferred Qualifications 

• Pursuing or obtained Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, Journalism, or similar, OR equivalent training and/or experience.

• Mid-level: 2+ years of paid social media work.

• Enjoy working in diverse subject matters.
